The Club held its annual Burns Night Dinner on 30th January.
Members and guests sat down to a delicious dinner prepared by Richard and his team at Faversham Golf Club. The meal started with scotch broth and was followed of course by haggis served with chappit carrots & neeps, and creamy mashed potato (with chicken available for the less adventurous!). Homemade shortbread accompanied the coffee.
The proper ceremonies were observed – the haggis was piped in, then addressed by Billy Rae, who was resplendent in traditional Highland dress. Rotarian Emily Scragg then ceremonially stabbed the haggis with a sgian-dubh (skee-en doo).
Simon Moore delivered an entertaining Address to the Lassies which was responded to by Ruth Goldfinch in an amusing Address to the Laddies.
Poetry included “To a Mouse” read by Clarissa and an excerpt from “To a Louse”read by Robin. There was singing by Billy Rae, whose splendid renditions of “Ae Fond Kiss” and “For A’ That” were much appreciated.
An enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne”.
